Germany2 – Norway

3:1

final (1:0, 1:0, 1:1)

05.01.2014, 12:00 • Derek OBrien (@@Djob76)

There are still two more games today . . . the medal games. First Canada – Russia for bronze and then Sweden – Finland for gold and silver. We'll cover them both for you here at Eurolivescores.com. (14:11:19)
Players of the Game:

Norway – Martin Ronnild
Germany – Leon Draisaitl
Shots on goal in the 3rd period: Germany 8 (26), Norway 17 (35).

Norway brought the pressure in the third period, but by then they were in a three-goal hole. They scored one and had other chances, but it wasn't enough.

After Norway won the first game of this series, Germany came back to win the next two. Germany will play in the top group next year in Toronto and Montreal, while Norway is relegated to Division 1.

60:00

Game over.

59:35

Shot by Rasch from the blueline, stick save Cupper.

59:20

Icing Germany.

Svendsen coming out again for the faceoff in the German zone.

59:03

Icing Norway . . . Lesund went back to retrieve the puck at his own blueline and tried to make a long pass to the far blueline but missed his target.

Svendsen back in the net.

58:42

Nilsen fans on a shot, then Germany shoots it down and is called for icing.

57:47

The Norway net is now empty, 6-on-5 for the faceoff to Cupper's left.

57:47

Norway rush, Tonjum to Rasch and Marvin Cupper comes across to make a spectacular save, and he covers.

57:20

Timeout Norway.

Joachim Svendsen remains in the Norway net for now.

57:20

Norway shot attempt goes high, over the glass, faceoff outside.

57:02

Now a Norway pass to the point misses and goes all the way back to their own end.

56:30

Germany ices and that'll do it for the power play. I don't think Norway got a shot, though they had good possession around the perimeter.

55:35

Hoff with a slapper, blocked.

54:40

Right after the goal, Norway going to the power play as Frederik Tiffels is called for boarding. If they can cash in here, we'll be in for quite a finish.

54:25

Goal for Team Norway!
They kept up the pressure and finally broke through. Henriksen with the initial shot, Cupper the save but MAGNUS FISCHER got the rebound and flipped it over him. Assists: Anders Henriksen, Simen Nielsen.

54:04

Lesund with a low slapper this time, pad save Cupper.

53:28

Lesund with a high wrister, hits Cupper up high and he traps it against his body for another whistle.

52:58

Draisaitl with a wrister, hits Svendsen in the chest, Norway start back the other way . . .

52:25

Jens Tonjum with another shot, a low wrister that's scooped up by Cupper. He and Karterud seem to be doing the most to try to spark the offence, but it's not gotten any results so far.

50:55

Kahun with the steal near the Norway blueline, rags the puck for a while, then fires a high shot that Svendsen knocks down the the glove. Play continues in the Norway zone.

49:28

Another glove save by Cupper, holds on for another faceoff.

49:10

Offside Norway.

48:34

Karterud a low shot, kicked out by Cupper.

47:42

Karterud takes the puck hard to the net, Cupper down and takes away the bottom of the net, and Karterud can't power it past him.

47:25

Tonjum again tries to get things going for Norway, enters the German zone and fires a high wrister, caught and held by Marvin Cupper.

45:57

Long shot from Ziegler, pad save Svendsen.

44:32

Jens Tonjum hits the goalpost on a Norway rush, and he skates back to his bench shaking his head. Norway can't get a break.

43:43

Goal for Team Germany!
German two-on-two rush into the zone, Filin passed to PATRICK KLOPPER, whose shot deflected off the stick of a Norwegian defenceman and through the legs of Svendsen. That could be a back-breaker. Assists: Vladislav Filin, Fabio Wagner.

43:06

Icing Norway.

41:41

Puck deflected out of play in the Norway zone, faceoff inside.

40:30

Nilsen with a shot in close, pad save Cupper.

40:01

Start of 3rd period.
Shots on goal in the 2nd period (and game): Germany 8 (10), Norway 8 (10).
Quality scoring chances: Germany 2 (3), Norway 1 (2).

The goal near the end of the period is huge, giving Germany a two-goal lead heading to the third period of a game which is must-win for both of these teams. The Norwegians were visibly upset as they left to their dressing room at the end of the period, as they have an uphill climb ahead of them.

3rd period starts at 13:33 CET, 07:33 EST.

40:00

In a scuffle after the final horn in the second period, Janik Moser and Didrik Svendsen each get 4 minutes for roughing, so we'll start the third period 4-on-4 and those players will be unavailable to their teams for the first four minutes.

40:00

2nd period finished.

39:20

Goal for Team Germany!
Once again the Germans have cahsed in on a last-minute rush into the Norwegian zone. A beautiful three-way passing play finishes with DOMINIK KAHUN snapping the puck over Svendsen, who had committed himself to a shot from Draisaitl. Someone at the Norway bench smashes his stick on the boards afterward. Assists: Leon Draisaitl, Frederik Tiffels.

37:55

Norway rush, Andreas Klavestad shoots from the left wing boards, stick save Cupper.

37:28

Norway shoot-in from the neutral zone is caught by Cupper and held for a faceoff.

36:50

Icing Norway.

36:35

Germany back at full strength as the play moves into the Norway zone.

35:42

Now Jorgen Karterud shoots for the far corner, goes off Cupper's left pad and the goalpost but stays out. Cupper didn't even move and I'm sure he never saw the shot with the crowd of players in front.

34:51

Tonjum shoots through a crowd, either hit Cupper or a player in front and went to the corner.

34:21

Slapper from Lesund, pad save Cupper.

31:01

Shot from Johnsgard, caught and held by Cupper.

30:46

Puck out of play in the German zone, faceoff inside.

28:20

Janik Moser with a one-timer from the point that goes wide just as the German power play ends.

27:48

27:28

26:13

The Germans will now have a 4-on-3 power play as Erland Lesund got his stick up on Leon Draisaitl.

25:31

We've got offsetting penalties to Germany's Vladislav Filin and Norway's Magnus Fischer, so we'll play 4-on-4 hockey, faceoff outside the German line.

25:27

Offside Norway.

24:29

Puck into the German bench, faceoff in the Norwegian zone.

24:05

Icing Norway.

23:20

Norway at full strength, play continues in their zone, Ziegler attempts a shot but it's deflected high off the glass, play continues.

22:31

Offside Germany with :49 left in their power play, still haven't got a shot on goal.

Play in the German zone and Ludvig Hoff crashes into Marvin Cupper, knocking him down and drawing a minor penalty for goaltender interference. Germany to the power play for the first time this game.

20:01

Start of 2nd period.
Shots on goal in the 1st period: Germany 10, Norway 10.

Norway seemed to have the better scoring chances that first period, but Germany scored the only goal late. This one looks like another close encounter between these two teams, and it might go down to the end to decide which team stays in the top group for next year.

2nd period starts at 12:45 CET, 06:45 EST.

20:00

1st period finished.

19:45

Goal for Team Germany!
Just when it seemed the period would end scoreless, the Germans attempted one last rush and it proved fruitful. FREDERIK TIFFELS carried the puck down the left wing and fired a wrister that beat Svendsen just inside the far post to the glove side. Assist: Leon Draisaitl.

18:55

Nilsen from the boards, stick save Cupper.

18:19

Offside Norway.

17:10

Shot by Kahun, stick save Svendsen. Kahun has looked like Germany's most dangerous player so far today.

16:10

Norway applying pressure in the German zone, wraparound attempt and Cupper stops and freezes the puck.

15:51

Icing Germany.

13:25

Nielsen a low shot, kicked out by Cupper.

12:51

Martin Ronnild with the puck in the German zone, his shot hits a stick and pops into the air, Cupper catches it and holds it.

12:14

Kahun with a low wrister from the top of the circle, butterfly save Svendsen, then the Norwegians come back quickly on the counterattack, Cupper makes the save and holds on.

11:17

Play stopped because of a German player in Joachim Svendsen's goal crease, faceoff outside.

05:31

Puck into the Norway bench, faceoff at centre ice.

05:17

Jorgen Karterud takes the puck to the German net, save Marvin Cupper, there's a scramble in the crease and the puck comes very close to the line, but then it's cleared away and play continues.
